Για την καθημερινή μου χρήση, συνήθως επιλέγω ένα μεγάλο και ισχυρό Android flagship — σκεφτείτε το OnePlus 13, το Galaxy S25 Ultra ή ακόμα και ένα μοντέλο Pixel XL. Αλλά τις τελευταίες δύο εβδομάδες, χρησιμοποιώ το νέο Google Pixel 10 και, ειλικρινά, το μικρό flagship της Google με έχει κερδίσει.
Παρόλο που προφανώς υπάρχει ακόμα ένα κενό χαρακτηριστικών μεταξύ του Pixel 10 και των Pro αδελφών του, δεν έχω νιώσει ότι μου λείπει κάτι ενώ χρησιμοποιώ το τηλέφωνο στην καθημερινότητά μου. Είτε περνάω γρήγορα από εφαρμογές, επεξεργάζομαι φωτογραφίες, ζητώ από την AI να ελέγξει κάποιον κώδικα, τραβάω οικογενειακές φωτογραφίες ή παίζω ελαφριά παιχνίδια, το Pixel 10 μοιάζει με ένα κορυφαίο τηλέφωνο, μόνο σε μικρότερο κέλυφος.
Αυτό δεν σημαίνει ότι η συσκευή είναι θεμελιωδώς διαφορετική από τα μοντέλα που προηγήθηκαν. Το Pixel 10 φαίνεται και αισθάνεται πολύ οικείο σε έναν φαν της σειράς σαν εμένα. Το UI της Google είναι ομαλό, υπάρχει υποστήριξη λειτουργικού συστήματος για επτά χρόνια και η διάρκεια ζωής της μπαταρίας μου φτάνει σχεδόν μια ολόκληρη μέρα με μία μόνο φόρτιση. Επιπλέον, υπάρχει ένα νέο πακέτο κάμερας που βρήκα πολύ πιο διασκεδαστικό από το περσινό συμπαγές μοντέλο, και το τηλέφωνο τώρα υποστηρίζει όλα τα μαγνητικά αξεσουάρ χωρίς να χρειάζεται προσαρμογέας θήκης Magsafe.
Αυτό είναι το βασικό Pixel flagship που έχουμε αγαπήσει, απλά ακόμα καλύτερο.
Αν ψάχνετε για αλλαγές στο hardware φέτος, δεν θα εστίαζα στον νέο επεξεργαστή Tensor G5. Ναι, έχει μερικά νέα κόλπα AI και επεξεργασίας εικόνας, που σίγουρα έχουν σημασία, αλλά η αύξηση της απόδοσης, αν και αξιοπρεπής, αφήνει το τηλέφωνο κάπως πίσω από τα ταχύτερα στην αγορά. Είναι καλό για ελαφριά παιχνίδια, αλλά η επιτυχία στα benchmarks δεν είναι ο λόγος που πρέπει να αγοράσετε ένα Pixel.
Αντίθετα, έχω ενθουσιαστεί πολύ περισσότερο με την αναβάθμιση της κάμερας του Pixel 10, συγκεκριμένα με την προσθήκη μιας κάμερας τηλεφακού 5x. Ο μικρός αισθητήρας 10.8 MP, f/3.1, 1/3.4 ιντσών δεν είναι τόσο ισχυρός όσο η κάμερα ζουμ στα Pro μοντέλα, που διαθέτουν μεγαλύτερο αισθητήρα, περισσότερα megapixels και χαρακτηριστικά όπως το 100x Pro Res ζουμ. Παρ' όλα αυτά, οι πρόσθετες δυνατότητες μεγάλου εύρους είναι απλώς μέρος της γοητείας του. Δεν μπορείς να νικήσεις λίγο φυσικό bokeh και βάθος πεδίου όταν πρόκειται να διασκεδάσεις με οποιαδήποτε κάμερα — και το Pixel 10 είναι επιτέλους μια κάμερα τηλεφώνου που είμαι ευχαριστημένος να αποκαλώ διασκεδαστική και όχι απλώς λειτουργική.
Η νέα κάμερα ζουμ είναι πολύ ανθεκτική όσον αφορά την ποιότητα, προσφέροντας τις ίδιες συνεπείς δυνατότητες έκθεσης και χρώματος με τον κύριο φακό. Είναι πιο επιρρεπής σε θόρυβο από το Pro μοντέλο, ιδιαίτερα σε οτιδήποτε άλλο εκτός από φωτεινό εξωτερικό φωτισμό. Παρ' όλα αυτά, ακόμη και οι λήψεις 10x εξωτερικού χώρου είναι σταθερές, αλλά 20x είναι πέρα από τις δυνατότητες της κάμερας, ακόμα και με φωτεινό φωτισμό.
Εξίσου, υπάρχουν κάποια προβλήματα λεπτομέρειας όταν φωτογραφίζετε σε 3x και 4x. Η Google φαίνεται να χρησιμοποιεί κάποια μορφή συγχώνευσης φακών, αλλά δεν μπορεί να αντισταθμίσει την έλλειψη λεπτομέρειας της κύριας κάμερας σε αυτήν την εμβέλεια πριν ενεργοποιηθεί το οπτικό ζουμ 5x. Υπάρχει σίγουρα μια διαφορά ευκρίνειας μεταξύ 4.9x και 5x, που είναι λίγο κρίμα καθώς η εστιακή απόσταση είναι λίγο μεγάλη σε πολλές περιπτώσεις. Αλλά είμαι λεπτολόγος, οι πλήρους καρέ λήψεις φαίνονται υπέροχες κοντά και σε μεγάλες αποστάσεις.
Δυστυχώς, αυτό που δίνει η Google με το ένα χέρι, το παίρνει με το άλλο. Οι κύριες και υπερ-ευρυγώνιες κάμερες είναι και οι δύο μικρότερες φέτος, αφήνοντάς τες πιο επιρρεπείς σε θόρυβο σε χαμηλό φωτισμό. Η υπερ-ευρυγώνια είναι σίγουρα χειρότερη εδώ. Δυσκολεύτηκε να συλλάβει λεπτομέρειες στο τοπίο που τράβηξα. Η παραμόρφωση στις άκρες είναι επίσης αρκετά άσχημη. Αντίθετα, η λειτουργία πανοράματος του τηλεφώνου κάνει θαύματα με την κάμερα 5x, επιτρέποντάς σας να καταγράψετε πολύ περισσότερες λεπτομέρειες αν θέλετε ένα ευρύ πεδίο θέασης με αρκετές λεπτομέρειες για να το κρεμάσετε στον τοίχο σας.
Ευτυχώς, οι αλγόριθμοι χαμηλού φωτισμού και HDR της Google εξασφαλίζουν ότι αυτές οι κάμερες δεν φαίνονται ποτέ κακές. Η επιστήμη των χρωμάτων του Pixel 10 είναι ακόμα λίγο επίπεδη, αλλά είναι αρκετά εύκολο να προσθέσετε περισσότερη ένταση με μια ελαφριά επεξεργασία όταν χρειάζεται, και ο σφιχτός έλεγχος της Google στην επεξεργασία σημαίνει ότι είναι απίστευτα συνεπής. Αμφιβάλλω ότι πολλοί θα παρατηρήσουν τις μικρές υποβαθμίσεις στις λεπτομέρειες, τουλάχιστον όχι χωρίς άμεση σύγκριση με το Pro ή το Pro XL.
Αν έχω ένα μεγαλύτερο παράπονο για την κάμερα που η Google συνεχίζει να μην αντιμετωπίζει, είναι οι φωτογραφίες πορτραίτου. Δυστυχώς, ο τηλεφακός 5x δεν βελτιώνει το επίπεδο λεπτομέρειας, με αποτέλεσμα υπερβολικά τραχιά υφές δέρματος και τεχνητό bokeh όταν χρησιμοποιείτε την προεπιλεγμένη ρύθμιση 3x. Ομοίως, η μικρή κάμερα selfie δυσκολεύεται λίγο με το δυναμικό εύρος, με αποτέλεσμα φωτογραφίες που είναι είτε λίγο σκοτεινές είτε ξεπλυμένες. Καμία από τις δύο λειτουργίες δεν είναι κακή, αλλά δεν είναι τα πιο δυνατά σημεία του πακέτου.
Συνολικά, είναι δύσκολο να παραπονεθεί κανείς για την ποιότητα εικόνας σε αυτή την τιμή. Αν και η ποιότητα δεν ταιριάζει ακριβώς με τα τηλέφωνα που κοστίζουν $999 ή περισσότερο, το Pixel 10 είναι πιο ευέλικτο από το Apple iPhone 16 και λίγο πιο συνεπές από το Samsung Galaxy S25. Για μένα, οι ελαφρές υποχωρήσεις στη λεπτομέρεια φέτος αξίζουν την προσθήκη του νέου φακού ζουμ 5x, αν και θα νιώσετε διαφορετικά αν είστε φανατικός φωτογράφος ευρείας γωνίας.
Τώρα, δεν είμαι πραγματικά άτομο που ασχολείται με αξεσουάρ. Το να βάλω μια θήκη και να βρω το ταχύτερο βύσμα USB-C που μπορώ να βρω είναι συνήθως το τέλος της διαδρομής μου. Αλλά αν είστε οπαδός του οικοσυστήματος Magsafe και θέλετε το νέο σας τηλέφωνο να συνεργάζεται καλά με αυτό από το κουτί, τότε το Pixel 10 είναι πλέον συμβατό.
Εκτός από τα δικά της αξεσουάρ Pixelsnap της Google, το Pixel 10 θα συνδέεται απευθείας σε μαγνητικές μπαταρίες, βάσεις αυτοκινήτου, τρίποδα, πορτοφόλια και άλλα χωρίς να χρειάζεται να βασιστείτε σε θήκη. Ευτυχώς, αυτή η πολυτέλεια δεν περιορίζεται στα πιο ακριβά Pro Pixels της Google.
Παρόλα αυτά, δεν είμαι πεπεισμένος για τον φορτιστή Google Pixelsnap, αλλά αυτό μπορεί να οφείλεται απλώς στη γενική μου αντιπάθεια για ασύρματα αξεσουάρ. Το κρεμαστό καλώδιο, η ζεστή συσκευή και οι αργοί χρόνοι φόρτισης θέτουν το ερώτημα: Γιατί να μην χρησιμοποιήσετε απλά USB-C; Παρά το γεγονός ότι υποστηρίζει έως και 27W ισχύος, ο ασύρματος φορτιστής δεν τράβηξε ποτέ πάνω από 18W από τον τοίχο και συχνά μόλις 9W (με ακόμη λιγότερη ισχύ να φτάνει στο τηλέφωνο). Αυτό μετατρέπει τον ήδη αργό χρόνο ενσύρματης φόρτισης των περίπου 85 λεπτών σε μια βασανιστική, πάνω από τρεις ώρες διαδικασία. Είναι εντάξει για φόρτιση κατά τη διάρκεια της νύχτας ή για λίγα λεπτά στο γραφείο σας, αλλά δεν θα ήθελα να χρησιμοποιώ το Pixelsnap όλη την ώρα.
Ένα σωστό στήριγμα μπορεί να προσφέρει πιο βολική τοποθέτηση, και η Google πουλάει ένα αρκετά ακριβό πρόσθετο για να κρατά τον φορτιστή Pixelsnap όρθιο, αλλά αυτό δεν αντιμετωπίζει κανένα από τα άλλα προβλήματά του. Ευχαριστώ, αλλά νομίζω ότι θα παραμείνω στο καλώδιο.
Ένας βασικός λόγος για να αγοράσετε ένα Pixel αντί για οποιαδήποτε άλλη μάρκα είναι τα αποκλειστικά χαρακτηριστικά της Google, πολλά από τα οποία περιστρέφονται όλο και περισσότερο γύρω από την AI. Υπάρχουν πολλά νέα χαρακτηριστικά φέτος, συμπεριλαμβανομένου ενός πιο ικανού μοντέλου Gemini Nano, οπτικών επικαλύψεων για το Gemini Live και πρόσβασης στο μοντέλο Imagen 4 στο Pixel Studio, αλλά αυτά είναι ίσως οι λιγότερο συναρπαστικές βελτιώσεις — μπορείτε να συνομιλήσετε με την AI παντού αυτές τις μέρες.
Ένα από τα πρώτα χαρακτηριστικά που παρατήρησα στο συρτάρι εφαρμογών είναι η νέα εφαρμογή Pixel Journal, σχεδιασμένη για να σας βοηθήσει να καταγράψετε τις σκέψεις και τα συναισθήματά σας, με προτροπές AI για να σας βοηθήσουν να καταγράψετε τις σκέψεις σας στο χαρτί. Δεν είμαι από αυτούς που σημειώνουν τις καθημερινές βαρετές στιγμές, αλλά η εντύπωσή μου είναι ότι κάνει τη δουλειά που έχει θέσει να κάνει. Ωστόσο, οι συνάδελφοι βρήκαν το σύνολο των χαρακτηριστικών ελλιπές σε σύγκριση με καλύτερα εδραιωμένες επιλογές, οπότε αυτό μοιάζει με μια περίπτωση της Google να εφευρίσκει τον τροχό απλά επειδή μπορεί.
Αυτό που χρειάζομαι περισσότερο είναι μια ώθηση στην παραγωγικότητα, και ελπίζω ότι η ενσωμάτωση του NotebookLM με το Pixel Recorder και τα Pixel Screenshots θα ήταν καθοριστική. Δυστυχώς, δεν το έχω βρει τόσο χρήσιμο. Η άμεση κοινοποίηση των μεταγραφών του Recorder είναι χρήσιμη, αλλά δεν καταγράφω τόσο πολύ, και ποτέ δεν ήταν πολύ δύσκολο να αντιγράψω μια μεταγραφή αν χρειαζόταν. Η ενσωμάτωση των Screenshots δεν φαίνεται να λειτουργεί, και ειλικρινά, το να ξεφυλλίζω τις εικόνες για να μοιραστώ αυτή που θέλω είναι περισσότερο χάσιμο χρόνου από ό,τι αξίζει για μένα. Ειλικρινά, είχα ξεχάσει ότι υπήρχαν τα Screenshots μέχρι να ξαναδιαβάσω όλα τα χαρακτηριστικά AI της Google, και ακόμα νομίζω ότι είναι απλώς ένας κίνδυνος ασφαλείας που περιμένει να συμβεί.
Δυστυχώς, αυτό δεν ήταν το μόνο χαρακτηριστικό που έλειπε στις δύο εβδομάδες μου με το Pixel 10. Ενώ οι συνάδελφοί μου στις ΗΠΑ δοκίμαζαν το "Help me edit" στις Φωτογραφίες, δεν κατάφερα να το εμφανίσω, παρά τις ρυθμίσεις που έκανα. Βάσει όσων έχω δει, είναι εκπληκτικά ικανό, παρά τις συνήθεις παγίδες της AI, και το να κάνεις ημι-καλές επεξεργασίες με τίποτα περισσότερο από μια απλή φωνητική εντολή είναι αναμφίβολα καλύτερο από την κοπιαστική χειροκίνητη επεξεργασία. Αν το είχα, θα μπορούσα σίγουρα να το χρησιμοποιήσω για να αφαιρέσω γρήγορα ενοχλητικά στοιχεία στο παρασκήνιο, αν μη τι άλλο.
Το Daily Hub επίσης απουσίαζε εμφανώς από το τηλέφωνό μου, οπότε κατέληξα να εγκαταστήσω το APK για να το δοκιμάσω. Δυστυχώς, δεν μπορώ παρά να συμφωνήσω με την εκτίμηση του συναδέλφου μου — είναι αρκετά απαίσιο. Οι περιλήψεις του καιρού και των επερχόμενων γεγονότων στο ημερολόγιο είναι εντάξει, αλλά είναι ουσιαστικά απλώς διακοσμητικά στοιχεία που εμποδίζουν τις πληροφορίες που πραγματικά χρειάζεστε. Όσο λιγότερα πούμε για τις ακατάλληλες προτάσεις του YouTube που είναι γεμάτες εκεί, τόσο το καλύτερο.
Μία νέα λειτουργία που ήταν πραγματικά έτοιμη να χρησιμοποιηθεί από την αρχή είναι το Camera Coach. Παρά το γεγονός ότι είμαι έμπειρος φωτογράφος, το δοκίμασα και διαπίστωσα ότι μπορεί σίγουρα να σας βοηθήσει να τραβήξετε μερικές πιο ενδιαφέρουσες λήψεις. Δεν προτείνει κάτι επαναστατικό, αλλά λεπτές βελτιώσεις όπως "πλησιάστε πιο κοντά", "εστιάστε στο πιο κοντινό μέρος" και "ευθυγραμμίστε για να δημιουργήσετε μια γραμμή" θα βοηθήσουν αναμφίβολα τους αρχάριους να αποκτήσουν καλύτερες φωτογραφίες. Ειλικρινά, όμως, στα λίγα δευτερόλεπτα που χρειάζεται το Camera Coach για να αναγνωρίσει τι προσπαθείτε να φωτογραφίσετε, θα μπορούσατε να έχετε τραβήξει 10 ή περισσότερες παραλλαγές και να έχετε πετύχει κάτι αξιοπρεπές. Δεν λειτουργεί ούτε εκτός σύνδεσης, οπότε είναι αρκετά άχρηστο αν θέλετε να το χρησιμοποιήσετε για ενδιαφέρουσες φωτογραφίες άγριας ζωής.
Αξίζει να σημειωθεί ότι, σε αντίθεση με πέρυσι, το Pixel 10 κλειδώνει περίπου 3GB RAM αποκλειστικά για χρήση AI. Αυτό είναι καλό όσο αξιοποιείτε τακτικά τα τελευταία εργαλεία της Google, αλλά αν όχι, πληρώνετε λίγο παραπάνω για περίπου 8-9GB διαθέσιμης RAM για τις εφαρμογές σας.
Με αυτά κατά νου, πιστεύω ότι η AI εξακολουθεί να είναι μια λύση που αναζητά πρόβλημα. Παρόλο που μερικές από τις τελευταίες λειτουργίες του Pixel 10 είναι αρκετά εντυπωσιακές, δεν μπορώ να φανταστώ να επιστρέφω σε πολλές από αυτές μακροπρόθεσμα. Το Call Screening είναι το μόνο αποκλειστικό Pixel που θέλω σε κάθε άλλο τηλέφωνο που χρησιμοποιώ, και αυτό υπάρχει εδώ και πολύ καιρό. Η νέα λειτουργία μετάφρασης κλήσεων σε πραγματικό χρόνο στη συσκευή είναι επίσης απίστευτα ισχυρή, και θα ήθελα να την έχω πάντα μαζί μου. Παρόλα αυτά, θα ήθελα να είναι ενσωματωμένη και στη λειτουργία συνομιλίας σε πραγματικό χρόνο του Google Translate και στις εφαρμογές μηνυμάτων τρίτων, αντί μόνο στην εφαρμογή Τηλέφωνο της Google.
Όπως είναι η συνήθης πρακτική για μια κριτική του Android Authority, έχω περάσει το Pixel 10 από τη σειρά δοκιμών του εργαστηρίου μας, που περιλαμβάνουν βιομηχανικά πρότυπα, τη δική μας δοκιμή διάρκειας μπαταρίας και μετρήσεις ικανότητας φόρτισης. Το προσαρμοσμένο Tensor της Google δεν ήταν ποτέ ένας παραδοσιακός ηγέτης απόδοσης, και αυτό παραμένει πολύ η περίπτωση με το Pixel 10 και το Tensor G5 chip του. Κατατάσσεται αρκετά πίσω από αντιπάλους με παρόμοια τιμή, συμπεριλαμβανομένων των iPhone 16 και Galaxy S25.
Φαίνεται άσχημο στα χαρτιά, αλλά αυτό δεν επηρεάζει την ικανότητα του τηλεφώνου να παρέχει άφθονη απόδοση για καθημερινές εργασίες. Δεν έχω βιώσει καμία διακοπή ή επιβράδυνση τις τελευταίες δύο εβδομάδες. Παρόλα αυτά, αν είστε μεγάλος gamer ή χρησιμοποιείτε το τηλέφωνό σας για πιο απαιτητικές εργασίες, το Pixel 10 σίγουρα δεν είναι το ταχύτερο διαθέσιμο.
Αν υπάρχει μια θετική πλευρά, η απόδοση του CPU και GPU έχει αυξηθεί τουλάχιστον κατά 25% σε σχέση με την προηγούμενη γενιά. Δεν υπάρχει επίσης ουσιαστικό κενό απόδοσης μεταξύ του μοντέλου Pro XL και του Pixel 10, εκτός από την επιπλέον συσσώρευση θερμότητας λόγω του μικρότερου σασί του Pixel 10, που μπορεί να κάνει το τηλέφωνο λίγο άβολο στο κράτημα κατά τη διάρκεια του gaming.
Το Google Pixel 10 έχει ελαφρώς μεγαλύτερη μπαταρία φέτος, 4970mAh σε σύγκριση με 4,700mAh. Σε συνδυασμό με τη μεταφορά του Tensor G5 σε μια πιο αποδοτική διαδικασία 3nm στην TSMC, το μικρό τηλέφωνο θα έπρεπε να διαρκεί περισσότερο από τον προκάτοχό του, αλλά αυτό δεν είναι απολύτως η περίπτωση. Η βαθμολογία περιήγησης στο διαδίκτυο του τηλεφώνου ξεπερνά τον ανταγωνισμό, και τα αποτελέσματα λήψης και αναπαραγωγής περιεχομένου ανταγωνίζονται τηλέφωνα με ακόμα μεγαλύτερες μπαταρίες. Ωστόσο, σημείωσε χειρότερα αποτελέσματα στις δοκιμές Zoom, εγγραφής 4K και gaming από το περσινό Pixel 9, οπότε η απόδοση ποικίλλει ανάλογα με τις περιπτώσεις χρήσης σας.
Δεν είναι το τηλέφωνο με τη μεγαλύτερη διάρκεια, αλλά θα πρέπει να διαρκέσει για τους περισσότερους χρήστες μια ολόκληρη μέρα — το έκανε για μένα. Απλώς ελπίζω η υποχρεωτική λειτουργία Βοήθειας Υγείας Μπαταρίας της Google να μην καταστρέψει τη χωρητικότητα της μπαταρίας σε μερικά χρόνια.
Όπως και το περσινό μοντέλο, το Pixel 10 φορτίζει μέσω καλωδίου χρησιμοποιώντας USB Power Delivery PPS έως και 27W. Αυτό επιτυγχάνεται μέσω μιας πολύ συνήθους σύνδεσης 9V, 3A που υποστηρίζουν οι περισσότερες σύγχρονες πρίζες.
Όσον αφορά τους χρόνους φόρτισης, το Pixel 10 χρειάζεται περίπου 85 λεπτά για να γεμίσει από κενό, κάτι που είναι αργό για μια μπαταρία αυτού του μεγέθους. Ο τελευταίος αλγόριθμος φόρτισης της Google είναι επίσης πιο συντηρητικός όσον αφορά τις θερμοκρασίες, πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι το τηλέφωνο χρειάζεται λίγο περισσότερο χρόνο για να φτάσει στο 50% και 75% της χωρητικότητας σε σύγκριση με τον προκάτοχό του.
Ενώ το Pixel 10 Pro μπορεί να είναι το τηλέφωνο που προσελκύει τους οπαδούς των compact Pixel, το Pixel 10 είναι το μοντέλο που θα προέτρεπα όλους να εξετάσουν πρώτα. Κάνει αρκετές σημαντικές αλλαγές στο ήδη σταθερό πακέτο της περασμένης χρονιάς και με πολλούς τρόπους φαίνεται σαν μια ευκαιρία σε σύγκριση με τα πιο ακριβά Pros.
Το Pixel 10 τώρα αισθάνεται πιο κοντά σε ένα μοντέλο Pro όσον αφορά την καθημερινή χρήση. Δεν υπάρχει κενό μοντέλου Tensor G5 Pro φέτος, και η έλλειψη UFS 4.0 δεν επηρεάζει την απόδοση των εφαρμογών σε σύγκριση με τα μεγαλύτερα μοντέλα. Επιπλέον, τώρα έχετε μια πιο ευέλικτη ρύθμιση κάμερας, υποστήριξη αξεσουάρ Pixelsnap και τις περισσότερες από τις σημαντικές νέες λειτουργίες AI της Google — αν σας ενδιαφέρουν τέτοια πράγματα. Μετά από δύο εβδομάδες με το τηλέφωνο, δεν ένιωσα ότι μου έλειπαν κάποιες από τις λειτουργίες Pro-tier της Google.

The little 10.8 MP, f/3.1, 1/3.4-inch sensor isn’t as potent as the zoom camera in the Pro models, which boast a larger sensor, more megapixels, and features like 100x Pro Res zoom. Still, the added long-range capabilities are just part of its charm. You can’t beat a bit of natural bokeh and depth of field when it comes to having fun with any camera — and the Pixel 10 is finally a camera phone I’m pleased to call enjoyable rather than just functional. The new zoom camera is very robust in terms of quality, offering the same consistent exposure and color capabilities as the main lens. It’s more prone to noise than the Pro model’s, particularly in anything other than bright outdoor lighting. Still, even 10x outdoor shots are solid, but 20x is beyond the camera’s capabilities, even with bright lighting. The Pixel 10's camera remains reliable and is now even more flexible. Equally, there are some detail issues when shooting at 3x and 4x. Google appears to be using some form of lens fusion, but it can’t compensate for the main camera’s lack of detail at this range before the 5x optical zoom kicks in. There’s definitely a sharpness difference between 4.9x and 5x, which is a bit of a shame as the focal length is a tad long in a lot of instances. But I’m nitpicking, the full-frame shots look great close up and at long distances. Unfortunately, what Google gives with one hand, it takes away with the other. The main and ultrawide cameras are both smaller this year, leaving them more prone to noise in low light. The ultrawide is certainly left worse off here; it struggled to capture fine detail in the landscape shots I took. The edge distortion is also quite nasty. Instead, the phone’s panorama mode works wonders with the 5x camera, allowing you to grab far more detail if you want a wide field of view with enough detail to blow up on your wall. Thankfully, Google’s low-light and HDR algorithms ensure that these cameras never look outright bad. The Pixel 10’s color science is still a little flat, but it’s easy enough to add more punch with a light edit when needed, and Google’s vice-like grip on processing means it is unbelievably consistent. I doubt many will notice the minor downgrades to fine detail, at least not without a direct comparison to the Pro or Pro XL.If I have one bigger camera complaint that Google continues to fail to address, it’s portrait photos. That said, I’m not sold on the Google Pixelsnap Charger, but that could just be my general dislike of wireless accessories. While my US colleagues have been trying out Help me edit in Photos, I’ve been unable to get it to show, despite adjusting all the required settings. Based on what I’ve seen, it’s surprisingly competent, despite the usual AI pitfalls, and making semi-decent edits with nothing more than a simple voice prompt is undoubtedly better than laborious manual editing. If I had it, I could certainly see myself using it to quickly take out background nuisances, if nothing else. Daily Hub was also conspicuously absent from my phone, so I ended up sideloading the APK to give it a shot. Unfortunately, I can’t help but agree with my colleague’s assessment — it’s pretty awful. The weather and upcoming calendar event summaries are OK, but they’re essentially just window dressing that gets in the way of the info you actually need. The less said about the inappropriate YouTube recommendations stuffed in there, the better.One new feature that was actually ready to go out of the box is Camera Coach. Despite being an experienced photographer, I gave it a try and found it can certainly help you take some more interesting shots. It doesn’t recommend anything groundbreaking, but subtle improvements like “move closer,” “focus on the closest part,” and “align to create a line” will undoubtedly help novices come away with better-looking snaps. Honestly, though, in the several seconds it takes for Camera Coach to recognise what you’re trying to shoot, you could have taken 10 or more variations and grabbed something decent. It doesn’t work offline either, so it is pretty useless if you want to use it for interesting wildlife snaps. A lot of AI tools are missing and I doubt I'll return to the few that work. It’s worth noting that, unlike last year, the Pixel 10 locks away around 3GB of RAM exclusively for AI use. That’s fine as long as you regularly make the most of Google’s latest tools, but if not, you’re paying a bit of a premium for around 8-9GB of usable RAM for your apps.With that in mind, I think AI is still a solution in search of a problem. While some of the Pixel 10’s latest functions are quite impressive, I can’t see myself returning to many of them in the long term. Call Screening is the only Pixel exclusive I want on every other phone I use, and that’s been around for what seems like forever. The new on-device real-time call translation feature is also incredibly powerful, and I’d love to always have it in my back pocket. While it doesn't have absolutely everything found in its bigger siblings, the more flexible camera package, new AI tools, great design, and faster processor make for a compact flagship phone with few compromises. Best of all, it still costs the same as last year. The Pixel 10 really is one of the best phones Google has ever made. For my daily driver, I typically pick a hulking great big powerhouse Android flagship — think the OnePlus 13, Galaxy S25 Ultra, or even a Pixel XL model. But for the past two weeks, I’ve been using the new Google Pixel 10 and, honestly, Google’s little flagship has converted me.While there is obviously still a feature gap between the Pixel 10 and its Pro siblings, I haven’t felt anything missing while putting the phone through my usual daily paces. Whether I’m blitzing through apps, editing photos, asking AI to check some code, grabbing some family snaps, or even dabbing in some light gaming, the Pixel 10 feels like a top-tier phone, only in a smaller shell.This isn’t to say the handset is fundamentally different from models that have come before; the Pixel 10 looks and feels very familiar to a series fan like me. Google’s UI is slick, there’s seven years of OS support, and battery life still just about lasts me a full day on a single charge. Plus, there’s a new camera package that I’ve found far more fun than last year’s compact model, and the phone now also supports all the magnetic accessories without resorting to a Magsafe case adapter.This is the baseline Pixel flagship we’ve come to love, just even better. Yes, it has some new AI and imaging pipeline tricks, which certainly matter, but the performance uplift, while decent, still leaves the phone some way behind the fastest on the market. It’s fine for some light gaming, but blitzing benchmarks isn’t why you should buy a Pixel.Instead, I’ve been far more excited by the Pixel 10’s camera revamp; specifically, the addition of a 5x telephoto camera. The little 10.8 MP, f/3.1, 1/3.4-inch sensor isn’t as potent as the zoom camera in the Pro models, which boast a larger sensor, more megapixels, and features like 100x Pro Res zoom. Still, the added long-range capabilities are just part of its charm. You can’t beat a bit of natural bokeh and depth of field when it comes to having fun with any camera — and the Pixel 10 is finally a camera phone I’m pleased to call enjoyable rather than just functional. The new zoom camera is very robust in terms of quality, offering the same consistent exposure and color capabilities as the main lens. It’s more prone to noise than the Pro model’s, particularly in anything other than bright outdoor lighting. Still, even 10x outdoor shots are solid, but 20x is beyond the camera’s capabilities, even with bright lighting. The Pixel 10's camera remains reliable and is now even more flexible. Equally, there are some detail issues when shooting at 3x and 4x. Google appears to be using some form of lens fusion, but it can’t compensate for the main camera’s lack of detail at this range before the 5x optical zoom kicks in. There’s definitely a sharpness difference between 4.9x and 5x, which is a bit of a shame as the focal length is a tad long in a lot of instances. But I’m nitpicking, the full-frame shots look great close up and at long distances. Unfortunately, what Google gives with one hand, it takes away with the other. The main and ultrawide cameras are both smaller this year, leaving them more prone to noise in low light. The ultrawide is certainly left worse off here; it struggled to capture fine detail in the landscape shots I took. The edge distortion is also quite nasty. Instead, the phone’s panorama mode works wonders with the 5x camera, allowing you to grab far more detail if you want a wide field of view with enough detail to blow up on your wall. Thankfully, Google’s low-light and HDR algorithms ensure that these cameras never look outright bad. The Pixel 10’s color science is still a little flat, but it’s easy enough to add more punch with a light edit when needed, and Google’s vice-like grip on processing means it is unbelievably consistent. I doubt many will notice the minor downgrades to fine detail, at least not without a direct comparison to the Pro or Pro XL.If I have one bigger camera complaint that Google continues to fail to address, it’s portrait photos. Sadly, the 5x telephoto doesn’t improve the level of detail, resulting in overly rough skin textures and artificial-looking bokeh when using the default 3x setting. Likewise, the small selfie camera struggles a little bit with dynamic range, resulting in pictures that are either a little dim or washed out. Neither mode is bad, but they’re not the package’s strongest suits. Overall, it’s hard to quibble about the image quality for this price. While the quality doesn’t quite match phones that cost $999 or more, the Pixel 10 is more flexible than the Apple iPhone 16 and a bit more consistent than the Samsung Galaxy S25. For me, this year’s slight trade-offs in fine detail are worth the added fun of the new 5x zoom lens, though you will feel differently if you’re an avid wide-angle photographer. But if you are a fan of the Magsafe ecosystem and want your new phone to play nicely with it out of the box, then the Pixel 10 is now on board.In addition to Google’s own Pixelsnap accessories, the Pixel 10 will clip straight onto magnetic battery packs, car mounts, tripods, wallets, and more without having to rely on a case. Thankfully, this luxury isn’t limited to Google’s more expensive Pro Pixels. Pixelsnap sacrifices charging times for convenience. That said, I’m not sold on the Google Pixelsnap Charger, but that could just be my general dislike of wireless accessories. The dangling cable, warm handset, and sluggish charge times beg the question: Why not just use USB-C? Despite handshaking for up to 27W of power, the wireless charger never pulled more than 18W from the wall and often just 9W (with even less reaching the phone). This turns the already sluggish wired charging time of around 85 minutes into an agonizing, over three-hour ordeal. It’s OK to charge overnight or spend a few minutes on your desk, but I wouldn’t want to use Pixelsnap all the time.A proper stand might offer more convenient placement, and Google sells a rather expensive add-on to hold the Pixelsnap Charger upright, but that doesn’t address any of its other problems.
